You Can Participate in Many Outdoor Summer Activities in the Vail Area

As the protocols in Eagle County change for Covid19, each business and activity modifies their operating procedures. Most are posted on their websites so that you can determine which activities are safe for you.

Some events will take place over the summer of 2020, with modifications for social distancing and health protocols for Covid19. 


Vail Mountain Hiking

There are several good hikes on Vail Mountain, including the Berry Picker Trail that goes from the base of Lionshead to the top of the gondola, gaining just over 2200' of vertical in 3 miles. You can hike up and take the gondola down or take the gondola up and hike down.

Vail Golf Club

The Vail Golf Course offers 18 holes of golf at an elevation of over 8000, located 1.5 miles to the east of Vail Village. There is a driving range so that you can calibrate your swing to altitude. The pro shop has rental clubs. Punch cards and season passes are available. Call 970-479-2260. You can also play at the Eagle Vail Golf Club which offers 18 holes and a 9 hour par 3 course. Pickleball in Vail

The Golden Peak Pickleball Center has 6 polyurethane cushioned courts and is located between Vail Village and Golden Peak. You can rent the courts by the hour or buy a season pass for the summer.  Call 970-471-3757 for more information or click the link below. Hikes are also avaiable in East Vail, Minturn, Avon, Beaver Creek and Edwards.

Located just to the east of Vail Village and Ford Park, the Vail Tennis Center has 8 clay courts.  In addition to hourly court rentals, there are also offers clinics and other programs for doubles, mixed doubles and beginners. Adventure Course at Epic Discovery



Epic Discovery 
Locaeted at the top of the Lionshead Gondola, Epic Discovery offers a number of family friendly activities, including a mountain coaster, tubing for adults and kids, adventure course, ziplines, climbing wall and bungee trampoline. Vail Mountain expects to open these activites in late June or early July of 2020.  


Road biking in the Vail area

In addition to riding up Vail Pass from Vail Village, there are many other great road bike rides in the Vail Valley including Bachelor Gulch, Strawberry Park, Mountain Star, Cordillera Summit and Divide and Bellyache Ridge.  The Eagle Valley Trail goes from Vail Pass to Glenwood. There are many mountain bike trails on Vail and Beaver Creek Mountains as well as in Eagle. You can find a lot of the routes on Strava.
Rent mountain, road or e-bikes from Vail Wheel Base in Lionshead. They also offer tours of Vail Pass with a shuttle to the top and then you ride back down to Vail.

Stand Up Paddle Board Rentals in Avon
Piney River Ranch

Located 12 miles north of Vail at an elevation of 9350', the Piney River Ranch offers a variey of outdoor activities for the summer, including canoeing (with great views), stand up paddle boarding, fishing and hiking. There's also an onsite restaurant. The Ranch is open from mid June until late September.

The Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park has cave exploration as well as thrill rides such as mountain swings and coasters. It is about 1 hour west of Vail on I-70, but worth the drive for family fun. Reservations are required for the summer of 2020 during Covid19. 970-945-4228.

There are numerous summer activities avaiable at Nottingham Lake in Avon, which is just 9 miles west of Vail. There's a sandy beach with an area for swimming. You can fish. You can also rent paddle boards and pedal boats.

E-bike sharing in Vail

There will be an e-bike sharing program in Vail from July 1 - Sept 9, 2020 opereated by Bewegen. There will be five stations between East Vail and Wset Vail where you can pick up and drop the bikes. The good news is that one of those stations is located at the Vail Library, which is just behind Vail International. As of late June, the pricing is $3 for a 30 minute ride or $25 per month which includes unlimited 45 minute rides for 30 days.
You can also rent e-bikes from shops in Lionshead such as Vail Bike Tech and Vail Wheel Base.
