Vail Mountain – Tips for a Better Ski Day
Over 1200 acres are groomed each night at Vail. . .with groomed runs off of almost every major lift. You can find the grooming report on line or there are printed maps daily at the Lionshead, Vail Village and Golden Peak bases.
Here is the list of what Vail calls their “signature grooms.”
• Monday – Riva Ridge • Tuesday – Blue Ox • Wednesday – Gandy Dancer • Thursday – The Slot • Friday – Riva Ridge • Saturday – Blue Ox • Sunday – Lindsey's
When Riva Ridge is freshly groomed, it’s a great top to bottom cruiser with 3100’ vertical and only 2 steep sections. If you liked it once, ride up Gondola One and Chair 4 and do it again.
Whether it’s for the grooming or for the powder, the early bird gets the best skiing of the day. For whatever reason, snowstorms seem to happen at night. With lots of high speed quad chairs on Vail Mountain, the only way that you’re going to be able to experience fresh powder is to get to the lifts for the opening bell, or 30 minutes earlier.
